In this episode of the CGC Podcast, Simon sits down for an interview with one of the newest members of the CGC Faculty, Connie Sheu. Dr. Connie Sheu is the General Manager for the Guitar Foundation of America and teaches at the Pasadena Conservatory of Music and Moreno Valley College. She is also a member of the Sheu-Pettit Duo, who regularly perform throughout the US. Connie is also one of the teachers of Classical Guitar Corner Academy’s newest “Office Hours” initiative. Simon and Connie talk about Office Hours, her duo, playing cello, and much more in this great conversation!

Featured recordings:

Sheu-Pettit Duo: Ida Presti, “Etude no. 1.” Here’s the full video of this recording:

Connie Sheu: Emilia Giuliani, “Prelude no. 1”

This Emilia Giuliani piece appears on Connie’s masterful CD The Woman’s Voice, which features original music for guitar by female composers. It is a remarkable recording you should definitely check out!

Find out more about Connie at her website.

I woke up early this morning, put on my headphones and listened to this podcast. I have just finished listening to both of Connie’s albums. Just unbelievably and indescribably beautiful.

I really enjoyed this podcast interview and especially the music. How does one obtain a copy of the sheet music for the Amelia (sp?) Giuliani prelude that was featured? Apologies if I got this name wrong — I was on a walk with the dog while I was listening and we were clambering over some rocks and brush at that moment of the podcast. I haven’t re-listened yet.

Anyway, thanks Connie and Simon for the enlightening interview! I’ll get the CDs.

      Hi Bruce,

I believe Schott published an edition of the Six Preludes by Emilia Giuliani.

      Peace,

      Dave B (CGC team)

Yes, Dave is right about the where to find the Preludes!

Thank you all for listening – it is a real pleasure to be part of the CGC community!

    Best,
    Connie

I was able to see Connie perform at UCLA last Sunday night. She is astounding! We are so blessed here at CGC to have such an incredible faculty.

What a wonderful interview with yet another wonderful member of the CGC staff! I’ll be checking into Connie’s office hours next week – my first attempt – to meet her “in person.”

    Hi Connie and Simon,

Thank you for the wonderful interview and music. I enjoyed the inspired idea of female composers, the study by Guliani’s daughter, and thoughts of Ida Presti. I appreciated my one office hour with Connie and looked forward to more.

    Best Regards,
    Drew

I really enjoyed this podcast and the links. What a beautiful way to start the day!

It’s always great to hear about another one of the fantastic CGCA instructors. I’ve had two coaching calls with Connie and am looking forward to more. (It’s probably a good thing that I didn’t listen to the podcast first as I might have been more intimidated than inspired!!)

    Thanks Connie and Simon!
