João Luiz Rezende is a two-time Grammy nominee, one of the founding members of the Brasil Guitar Duo and was recently named as the Chair of the Guitar Department at the Yale School of Music, where Ben Verdery taught for more than forty years.
In this podcast interview, we feature a presentation that João gave at our annual Summer School in 2023, where he talks about different techniques for interpreting Brazilian music, different rhythms involved (like the samba), different styles and genres, and how the language and culture of Brazil relate to one another and affect Brazilian music.
You can learn more about João here and on the Brasil Guitar Duo site here.
