Parameters of Sound: Tone as a Creative Element

Each time we pick up the guitar, we have the opportunity to explore and develop our personal sound. The practice of exploring specific tone parameters and connecting each to an aspect of technique opens creative pathways and deepens our approach to interpretation. In this workshop, we will identify each parameter of sound and work with their applications in performance, composition, and improvisation.

Practicing Technique Musically

This workshop explores how to develop classical guitar technique routines through a musical lens. Rather than treating technical exercises as something separate from expression, we will practice fundamental skills while always connecting them to sound, phrasing, color, dynamic motion, and musical intention.

Topics will include a healthy warmup routine, scales, slurs, arpeggio building, tone production, and vibrato. The goal is to help students build reliable routines while staying connected to the instrument’s expressive possibilities.
