In October we wrapped up our Fall Grade Exam Submissions at CGC Academy for 2020. We had so many wonderful submissions and it was a great learning experience for the whole community. Last year we were treated with our very first Grade 8 exam at CGC Academy. This time around we were happy to celebrate two more wonderful Grade 8 Exam Submissions. And so we would like to share part of just one of those exams with you.

Below is the repertoire performance — really a mini-concert — from Academy member Rick Lord from his Grade 8 Exam. Here’s the program:

William Walton’s Bagatelle No. 3

Vals No. 3 Op. 8 by Augustin Barrios

Bach, Prelude from 1st Cello Suite BWV 1007

Scarlatti’s Sonata in A Major – K.322

Paganini’s Romance

Prelude 1 by Villa-Lobos

Please share your congratulations with Rick on this wonderful performance (and on passing his Grade 8 Exam) in the comments below!

    Rick,
What a wonderful performance! I can only imagine the hard work and dedication, never mind talent, to reach this level of accomplishment. I hope the time comes soon when you can share your gift with the rest of your community in a live setting.
    Straight ahead,
    Chris Ebneth

Well done, Rick! A nice selection of pieces and great guitar tone.

I would like to know more about your background prior to CGCA. Were you a complete beginner when you joined and how long have you been a member?

Keep up the good work and enjoy the music ;-)

    Just wonderful Rick.
You’ve reached the top with a marvelous recital for all of us to enjoy!!

Chris Ebneth couldn’t have put it better when he wrote:
“I can only imagine the hard work and dedication, never mind talent, to reach this level of accomplishment.”

I have personally seen your hard work and dedication in the last …. is it 10 years now?
Now I look forward to seeing you perform live at our next Summer School!
